Did you know that one
plus one equals three? That’s ridiculous, you might say.
Consider this:
You could have been taught all your life that 1+1=3, but does that
make it true?
As a result of your upbringing, and the fact that everyone else
around you, people that you know, love and trust, believe that
1+1=3, you can become totally convinced of this mathematical
impossibility. Yet that does not make it accurate.
In your sincerity and zealousness, you could have told many others
that 1+1=3, and even persuaded and convinced them of your
mathematical genesis, yet that does not change the facts.
You could have been threatened or forced to believe that 1+1=3, even
to the point of personal assault or injury if you deny or question
it. Despite even this, the facts remain.
You could have been put under a heavy burden of guilt or
condemnation for questioning the possibility that something seems
wrong this equation, yet the facts are what they are.
You could have been told that everyone who believes contrary to you
is wrong, uninformed, unintelligent and sadly mistaken, and that
only those with the mathematical insight or wherewithal to
comprehend that 1+1=3 are special and above the rest. Yet, who is
right in their addition? You could have been
told to shun others who believed differently, calling them stupid
or misinformed bean counters. Yet with the silent treatment
and all the name calling, the facts still speak for themselves.
You may have a book that lays out a mathematical formula proving
that 1+1=3 and this book may have been written by a well respected
man or woman, yet the truth is still the truth.
In spite of all of the above reasoning, the absolute fact is; 1+1
does not equal 3.
However, unless a person who has accepted this faulty mathematical
conclusion is willing to relearn simple math and addition
techniques, it is very unlikely that they will ever be persuaded
otherwise. To them, 1+1 really equals 3. It’s always been that way
and they are not going to consider anything else!
Unless one gets to the point that they are willing to hold up two
figures in front of their own face and count them one at a time,……
one, ……..two, …….they will never likely come to any other
conclusion. Further, once presented with the facts, unless they ever
come to the place where they will humbly admit that they were wrong,
their own pride will prohibit them from understanding truth.
This scenario is not just about numbers, it applies to many
situations in life.
Many people fail to face the reality of their need for a personal
Savior. They remain confident in themselves, their own knowledge and
ability, their individual upbringing, religious associations, etc…
However, none of this adds up correctly.
Others will not be honest about themselves or their failed
relationships with people surrounding them. They are too persuaded
in their own ideas and opinions, abilities and knowledge to see
where they are in err. In their mind, how could they be so wrong and
others right?
Still others rely too much on their religious upbringing and
institutional church system. After all, they worship with “good
people” and their preacher “preaches the Bible” to them week after
week. Their church is financially secure, they have a nice “church
building”, successful programs and their membership numbers are up,
so surely God’s blessing is upon them!
No matter what justification may be used to prove that 1+1=3, the
fact is:
1+1=2
And that is never going to change no matter who says otherwise!
