June 24,
2007 Sunday Morning,
“Once Again We
Come…” Another Sunday morning is here and as the saints lifted their
voices in song, Bro Kevin Byrd, our precious mongoloid brother, wanted
to sing this song. He even took the liberty to get up and lead the
congregation. Would to God that we were all free to worship and share as
God lays it upon our heart.
The lesson this morning was taken from John 21 and titled “What about
John?” As Bro Joe explained, here we see Jesus commissioning Peter for
the work he was to do, but Peter was preoccupied with what John would be
doing!! Jesus let him know very politely that it was none of His
business.
We need to be focused on making sure WE follow God’s will for our life
without worrying about other people’s experience. True, if we see our
brother err, we are to pray for him, or go talk to him, but this is
different than being a “busybody in other man’s matters.” Each one of us
must work out our own salvation and run the race set before us (Heb
12:1). We are individuals and our experience with God is unique and
personal. He is a personal God. No one knows better what God has told
them to do, but the person himself. As Aslan told Lucy in The Chronicles
of Narnia “No one is told any story but their own.”
If we worry too much about what others are doing, it could hinder what
God is calling us to do. In Mark 9:38, we see the disciples being upset
because a man who was not with their little group was doing works of
God. Should they stop him, they wondered? Christ said to leave Him alone
as long as he wasn’t against them, he was actually for them. God’s work
is huge and can be compared to building the wall in Nehemiah’s day. If
we just build on our section, our part will get done. God will take care
of who He uses to build the rest. It might be someone we don’t even know
exists. So just “worry about Peter” and God will take care of "John”.
Only to be what He
wants me to be, every moment of every day;
Yielded
completely to Jesus alone, every step of this pilgrim way.
Just to be clay in the Potter's hands, ready to do what His Word
commands, Only to be what He wants me to be every moment of every day.
