Where He leads me I will follow -
I'll go with Him, with Him all the way.

This beautiful old hymn was written by E.W. Blandy sometime in the 19th century. It is sung in many churches worldwide.

However, it is one thing to casually sing this hymn while seated in a padded pew with hardly a care in the world. It is quite another thing to live this song out on a daily basis.

“Where He leads me I will follow.”

Stop and meditate on that. Do we really mean that?

What if He would lead us to the town drunkard? What if He would lead us to the homeless man living on the streets? What if He would lead us to the low income projects on the bad side of town? What if He would lead us to witness to our neighbor down the street?

Would we really follow Him?

“Where He leads me I will follow.”

“I'll go with Him, with Him all the way

Paul said in Romans 8:14: "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."

If we understand this passage correctly, our sonship is tied directly to our being led by the Spirit of God.

If He cannot lead us, we are not one of His. If we won’t follow His leading, we are not one of His.

The price to fully follow Him is great! It will cost you everything.

Luke 9:23-24  And Jesus said to them all, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it

It is a great sacrifice to follow Christ, but He has not left us to ourselves.

This same song says in another verse: “He will give me grace and glory - And go with me, with me all the way.”

The will of God will never lead you to where the grace of God cannot keep you. But the choice to follow is up to you. Will you follow the Lamb where ever He chooses to lead you?

Don’t answer that question too quickly.
