The Bondage of Sin
I once was in bondage to the power of sin
Enslaved and in prison and helpless within
I had a taskmaster who was all but a friend
Praise God! I'm delivered from the bondage of sin.
Chorus
Oh, why should I ever go back into bondage
When a prize is before me that I'm sure I shall win
With the joy of salvation reigning deep down within
I have no desire for the bondage of sin
There are times in my journey when I have to stand still
Then I look to my Father and consent to His will
When it seems I have come to my very wit's end
Even hope here is brighter than when living in sin
On the borders of Canaan I am viewing that land
And the world looks so cheap now; its attraction offends
There's so much out before me that constrains me to stand
And there's nothing behind me but the bondage of sin
I have many loved ones and our spirits don't blend
With the light I am seeing and the truth I walk in
But I'm hoping and praying that a life's crown they win
And I'll see them escaping from the bondage of sin
