Easter Sunday Evening Meeting Report, Apr 8, 2007:

At beginning of the evening Easter service, we arrived to find the chairs rearranged in somewhat of a horseshoe – producing more like a living room effect.  The meeting started with singing and prayer. One of the first-time visitors asked us to anoint a handkerchief for her mother who has recently been diagnosed with a fast growing cancer. At her request, the entire church gathered together and agreed in prayer for this dear woman. The handkerchief will be delivered by one of the saints, who was also prayed over. Afterwards, Bro Joe Coons led a discussion on true worship.

All down through time, man has worshipped some form of higher being.  The pagans built “houses” to worship their gods in.  The Old Testament nation of Israel picked up some of these heathen influences as well.  There was a time when God’s people worshiped in Jerusalem or at least faced that direction if they were captives in another country (like Daniel).  But Jesus told the women in John 4 that there was coming a time when true worshippers wouldn’t need a designated place to worship God.  They would worship Him in spirit and truth.

True worship to God takes place any where you can get alone with Him and enter His presence.  This can be Sunday during a “worship service”, but most likely, there will be times of private worship as well.  At home, or driving in the car when you burst forth in a song or prayer, you are actually worshipping God.

Most importantly, our worship to God is shown by honoring Him with our life.  For what does it profit to draw nigh to God with our lips in praise, when in our life we are dishonoring and disobeying Him and there is no real personal relationship (Isa 29:13).  The highest form of worship is a life lived obediently to God and sensitive to His voice.  May we all strive to this perfection.
