Mar 11 Using Acts 2:41-47 as his text, Bro. Dillow spoke about the New Testament church. He explained how the church went far beyond a Sunday worship service, or even the “salvation of souls” from hell. The New Testament church was a family, a community of believers that cared for one another. This care was caused by the love of God placed in their hearts upon conversion. And it was by this love, this feeling of family, that people took note that the early Christian’s were Christ’s disciples. How can we expect any less than this today? God’s church is described in the New Testament as a family. We are the household of God (Eph 2:19). The modern institutional Christian church with its organization and programs is a far cry from the “simplicity that is in Christ” – simplicity to gather and worship spontaneously, edify one another, and to lovingly support those in our midst who are in need. We need to return to the New Testament style church under the headship of Christ before we will have an effect on the world around us. At the end of the lesson, we gathered together and prayed that God would guide us and that we would be receptive to anything that He may wish to use us for. |
