The Lord's
Supper....
In the
Institutionalized Church, there are wide ranging religious
viewpoints on this subject. There are also many differ traditions
surrounding this teaching.
Some
practice it every week. Some once or twice a year. Others partake
only near Passover or Easter time.
There
are many different expressions describing this occasion, such as,
the Eucharist, the Communion Ordinance, the "Bread and Wine", the
Supper, etc... Some experience it while standing and others while
sitting.
Some insist on using
real alcoholic wine, others simply use grape juice. Some say that
all participants should drink from the same cup. Others use individual cups, and yet
others skip the wine entirely.
Some say
this is a sacred "ordinance", and surround this special occasion
with much ritual, insisting on reverential silence, self examination
and reflection. Others see it as a dinner or love feast in
celebration of Christ' death, burial and resurrection.
Some use a full loaf of
bread, other use crackers or wafers, and yet other demand the use
of unleavened bread. Some only partake of the bread and wine, others
eat a full meal with the bread and wine.
So, what is right?
Was it really meant
to be this complicated???
Since we have never
really studied this subject out for ourselves, we will be conducting an
in-depth, interactive study of the teaching of the Lord's supper. It is our desire to sort out the real from the
ritual. The communion from the confusion.
Come
join us for this study as it is sure to be interesting day of Bible
study and discussion.
