Report: Sept 6, 2006

The second Gospel Outreach meeting in South Charleston, Ohio is now in progress! Sis Joanne Coons brought a message titled "The Lord is Merciful". She used the story of Jonah as her scripture text. She pointed out that Jonah had a message from God, but he did not have a heart for the people of Nineveh. And it showed by his harsh treatment of them. After his excursion to Tarshish and experience of being swallowed up by a fish, when finally arriving in Nineveh, Jonah’s message was not about confessing and forsaking sin, nor that the Lord will abundantly pardon when the unrighteous man forsakes his way and returns to the Lord, rather Jonah’s message was about death and destruction. His heart was so hardened and his will so stubborn, he preached nothing about God's mercy and redemption and how Nineveh could be saved, but instead preached that Nineveh will be destroyed in 40 days because of their terrible evil ways!!  Jonah knew deep in God’s heart that God wanted Nineveh to repent and be saved!  But Jonah would not tell Nineveh God’s true love for them. Nonetheless, God was merciful to the people of Nineveh and spared them from death and destruction. Was Jonah happy about this? No! When Nineveh did repent, Jonah took a pouting spell and had a pity party for himself outside the city and told God he wanted to die. He had been given a message from God, but he had no heart for the people. He had the right words, but the wrong spirit. In reality, Jonah was in worse spiritual shape then the people of Nineveh. They repented, Jonah didn't.

We are thankful for the visitors that were in the meeting. Sis Julie Rice from North Carolina was in attendance and Bro Cory Mosley was in attendance as well. Please continue to lift this meeting up in prayer.
