Meeting Report: Friday, Nov 3, 2006:

The second night of our meeting started out chilly as we waited for the heaters to warm things up.  At first, we huddled in coats with blankets to cover the children, but by the time everyone gathered in and the service got well under way, the chapel was warming up nicely.  Once again we were blessed with approximately 35 people, including one visiting family from the community.

Bro. Joe Coons spoke on the “Peace of God” and took his lesson text from Isa. 9:6 where Christ is described as the Prince of Peace.  He desires to share this peace with all mankind.  He will give to us peace in “the valley of the shadow of death”, peace to deal with our neighbors, and peace in our minds during the trials/storms of life.  At one point, Bro Joe broke out in song during the message with “He will Calm the Troubled Waters of Your Soul” (words below).

Certainly, there is a peaceful place where we can hide when hard times come our way – a safe place – called “the secret place of the most High…under the shadow of the Almighty”  (Psalms 91:1).  Though it is evident that we all must go through troubles and hard times at some point of our life, God will give us a “peace that passeth all understanding”.  Instead of fear at those times, God will sustain us and give us a calm, peaceful spirit to face the problem. In order to have this, though, we must be living during the good times with God’s peace in our hearts as well.

God is faithful to His children when they need Him, if they have been faithful to Him when He needed them.  God stood by the martyrs who died for their faith, and we have proved Him to be true during hard times in our life.  Yes, the promises of God stand sure.

Deep in every heart there is a longing,
To find happiness and peace of mind.
When you are weary of this searching,
Turn to Jesus and you’ll find.

Chorus

He will calm the troubled waters of your soul,
He can take your broken heart and make it whole.
When the storms of your life are dark and cold,
He will calm the troubled waters of your soul.

If your heart is burdened down with sorrows,
You don’t have to bear it all alone.
There is one who knows all about your sorrows,
He’ll be standing by when other friends are gone.
