Who Is Robbing God?

Christianity Today reported the results of a study of church budgets. The study shows that the average-size budget of the churches surveyed is $292,790. Here's how their annual expenses are allocated:

43 percent for staff salaries
20 percent for facilities (rent, mortgage, utilities, maintenance)
16 percent for missions
9 percent for church programs
6 percent for administration and supplies
3 percent for denominational fees
3 percent other

Staff salaries, facilities, administrative and denominational fees combine for an average 72% of the total budget. Almost three quarters spent for maintenance of systems and practices not even mentioned in the New Testament.

Another study by McGraw Hill Dodge Market Reports shows that churches spent an estimated $4.4 billion dollars in 2008 on building or remodeling facilities. This is a huge amount of money to spend on structures which have no scriptural foundation and will in fact melt with fervent heat at the second coming of Christ.

The Bottom Line: The Institutionalized Church spends huge amounts of God’s resources to support a system that is actually counter to what He laid out in scripture.

And so we must ask...... Who is Robbing God?
