He's making a list, and checking it twice... The title of this article was written in reference to Saint Nicholas,
better known as Santa Claus.
I’m sure we have all heard this song at some point in our life:
You better watch out!
You better not cry!
Better not pout,
I'm telling you why,
Santa Claus is coming to town.
He's making a list,
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out who's naughty and nice.
Santa Claus is coming to town.
He sees you when you're sleeping,
He knows when you're awake,
He knows if you've been bad or good,
So be good for goodness sake! The primary message in this song is to be good because
if you are not, you will not get a present from Santa Claus.
Well, Santa is not the only person who is making lists
and checking them twice. Most every denomination
and sect in the Institutionalized church has a list
of some sort. Those lists include certain doctrines,
creeds, traditions, standards of behavior,
standards of dress, etc… If their members are not
being “good” and adhering to the items on the list
of their particular church, they will not get a
present, i.e. a church position, a pat on the back,
a prestigious title, etc… If they “pout” or “cry”
or question something on the list, when Santa comes
to town hollering “Ho, Ho, Ho”, they better watch out! You
certainly don't want to get on Old Saint Nick's "bad boy list".
Thank God, we are not concerned about pleasing the fat guy
in the funny suit, but rather we are most concerned about
pleasing the One who shed His precious blood for our sins.
He has 66 books on his list and if we live by the truths contained in these books, we will not pout, we will not cry, and we will not be bad either. Rather, we will live a holy and godly life in this present world, .... and love to do it! If ye love me, keep my commandments...and his commandments are not grievous. (John 14:15, 1John 5:3) Our desire is for our name to stay on the Lamb's Book of Life! |
