We will worship thee in the Bible way…

What IS the Bible way to worship God?  This was the topic of our lesson tonight.  Jesus once had a similar discussion with a woman at a well (John 4).  His reply was “In spirit and in truth”.  In other words, worship should come from deep down within us – a spontaneous action – not something worked up by music, emotion, bribery or threat.  Worship must be truthful and sincere.

The “church service” is not the primary place to worship God.  In fact, the service should just be a time to collectively share the “worshipping” we have done all week long.  Worship is a lifestyle that we model daily, one of obedience to God.  By our obedience, we are actually proclaiming to the world “I honor God and believe what He says.  He is worthy of my life”.  This is the highest form of worship that we can render to Him.

Unfortunately, some people feel that if they attend church services, they have worshipped God.  But this is not necessarily the case, especially if they aren’t living a life of obedience throughout the week.  True, there are times when a spirit of praise for God and all He has done will just fill our soul and we will burst into song or shouting, but this does not have to take place in a worship service.  It should be spontaneous, unable to be contained to just a certain time or place.  It could happen in your car, or the shower, while rocking the baby, etc.  Anywhere you have time to stop and meditate about God, worship can take place.

Once again, worship is a way of life while the church meetings should be a time to share our worship experience and edify one another.
