Sunday Evening, Feb 10, 2008,

Tonight’s lesson built upon this morning.  Bro Dillow taught on the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) and the subject “Who is My Neighbor?.  Here we see a man who, though it disrupted his plans, goes out of his way to help an enemy.  Religion couldn’t and wouldn’t help the fallen one. The law, the do’s and don’ts, couldn’t and wouldn’t help the injured man. What an inconvenience for the Samaritan to stop on the Jericho road, a road known to be waylaid with robbers at times, to tend to someone he doesn’t even know.  What unselfishness to use his own money and animal to help care for the injured man.

Jesus’ message here is that our neighbor is not just the ones we are close to – those we meet everyday – but includes all mankind. If you go back far enough in genealogy, we are ALL brothers.  “Loving our neighbor” means to help ease someone’s path who is struggling, whether or not we know them.  This is the life Jesus came to teach us.  A life that makes the world a better place to live and causes us not to be self-absorbed.  Jesus came to relieve the afflicted and set captives free.  He has given us an example so we should follow His steps (John 13:15).  May God grant us eyes to see needs of those around us.
