Sunday Evening, Feb 24, 2008, We gathered for another time of worship while the city anticipated the arrival of former President Bill Clinton at the YMCA across the street. Oh the joys of presidential campaign politics! (And you thought preacher politics were bad??) If we could only anticipate meeting with our Lord like the world does with famous people, we would be much better off. We don’t want Him, though, to just visit us from time to time, we want Him to abide with us, and us in Him. This thought goes right along with the lesson Sunday night. Sis Joanne read a story entitled “The Hero Of Indian Cliff” and expounded on it. In this story, we fine 2 boys climbed a mountain. One was a novice and the older one experienced. Yet it was the experienced older brother who got too close to the edge and fell. His brother pulled him to safety, but, oh what work involved! Several spiritual lessons can be drawn from this tale. First of all, we need to be cautious about how close to the edge we get. Over confidence and pride lead to a fall. Never assume something is “old hat” for the devil is just around the corner to trip us up and make us fall. If we do, it will take much effort on our part to get back where we were before the fall, but we can do it if we try. Oh what carefulness it will instill in us for the next time (I Cor. 7:11). Pay attention to where you plant your feet so you don’t fall away from the presence of the Lord. Click here to read the entire story. |
