Sunday Evening, July 26, 2009,
This evening, we
discussed the importance of faith and works in the life of a
Christian. By works, we refer to acts of obedience. Having read both
Heb 11:31 and James 2:25, the question was asked "What was the
saving grace of Rahab." By the end of the lesson, we discoverd that
her salvation was brought about by both works and faith.
There are some today
that teach a salvation by faith alone. In other words, all it takes
is a belief in God. It requires nothing on our part. Others teach
that they must work their way into salvation. Both extremes are
wrong. Faith without works is dead. D-E-A-D. Worthless. James said:
"I will show you my faith by my works." The two go hand in hand.
We also discussed the OT
law and how that it was nailed to the cross. It is no more in
effect. It was never in effect for Christians. Keeping the law, or
performing religious works, will not save anyone. In reality, we are
saved by a combination of grace, mercy, faith, love, forgiveness,
and by works. Without all of these working, true salvation cannot be
found or sustained.
We had much interaction
during this lesson and it was a rich discussion. |
