Sunday Evening, October 11, 2009,

Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. - 1Peter 4:16

This evening, Bro Joe led a discussion about the reasons for suffering. The list is surely a long one, but the following reasons were discussed:

1. Because we have an imperfect body that is breaking down over time
2. To keep us humble
3. To glorify God
4. Because of persecution
5. To teach us to be more Christ-like
6. To show us that we are wrong

While many religious "name it-claim it" organizations promise continual peace and prosperity, suffering is part of the Christian life as well. When we allow suffering to have its perfect work, the saints will come out ahead as a result and will be more Christ-like.
