Sunday Evening, September 20, 2009,This
evening, we continued with our study of the conscious and its
relationship with convictions. We also discussed the external influences that
play upon the development of our conscious. The scriptures teach us
to train up children in the way that they should go,
and they will not depart from those ways. This does not mean that
you can grow a Christian, but it does mean the you can instill moral
principles into our children's hearts and minds such that it will be
very difficult for them to override their conscience and do wrong.
We also spent some
time examining the scriptures regarding the possibility of searing
the conscience. Like a saw blade whose teeth have been worn down
over time and can no longer cut through wood, there are people who
have overridden their conscience time and time again to the point
that they are no longer bothered when they do something wrong. This
is a very pitiful position to be in and it is only by the mercy of
God that one can recover from such a condition.
Finally, we were
reminded again that it is not purely our conscience that we are to
be guided by, but rather we are to be led by the Holy Spirit working
through our conscience and the Word of God. If we will do this, we
can live such that we have a conscience void of offense towards God
and man. |
