Sunday Morning, Apr 20, 2008, This morning, Bro Dale led a group discussion on the five (5) kinds of religion. He took his thoughts directly out of a devotional book titled. The Secret of a Singing Heart, written by Charles W. Naylor. The five kinds of religions are: (1) RELIGION OF SELF-DENIAL - The religion of the "I Don't Do" this and that. (2) RELIGION OF WORKS - - The religion of the "I Do" this and that. (3) RELIGION OF THE LAW - The Sinai religion of the "Thou Shalt" and the "Thou Shalt Nots." (4) RELIGION OF EMOTIONS - The slippery feel good religion, based on feelings and emotions rather than faith. (5) NEW TESTAMENT RELIGION - True religion that corresponds with the teachings of the New Testament and with the experiences of those who have learned the inner and fuller realities of religion, is that religion which is of the heart. It is a religion in which the heart is in its natural element. It is a religion of peace and contentment, a religion of joyful service. It is the natural expression of the soul. It is a peaceful and harmonious relation with God. It is the relation of a child and its father. Its elements are simplicity, sincerity, purity, faith, love, and all the fruits of the Spirit. It is a Spirit-filled life. All these things just mentioned are the deep sources that feed the bubbling springs of joy that flow forth in the waters of rejoicing and song. God only has one religion and that is true religion. It has two parts, inward and outward expression. "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world" (James 1:27) Elements of each of the first four religions will try to bring us into captivity and bondage, but only true religion will led to glorious freedom in Christ. He who the Son makes free is free indeed! Click here to read the entire lesson. |
