Sunday Morning, January 24, 2010,
Let there be light…. And
there was light.
This
morning, we had a very good turnout for the meeting. Everyone seemed
to be encouraged, although some have gone through an emotionally
filled week. One of the maintenance men at the Marriot, Bob Kilgore,
passed away this week. He and his family are good friends of Sis
Melody and she was there when he passed away last Wednesday evening.
We are thankful that Bob gave his heart over to the Lord before his
passing. Also, Bro Lee brought a good report about the funeral of
his mother last Saturday. We are thankful for the comfort, grace and
strength that the Lord is providing to each one who recently lost
relatives and friends to death. As Bro Lee said today, the death of
a saint should not be viewed so much as a loss, but as an investment
in heaven. We now have more to go to heaven for. We sang the old
song "Beautiful Robes".
After the testimonies
and singing, we had a discussion about our attitude to towards
further light and understanding. The title of the lesson was "Let
there be light…. And there was light." The "let there be" part
must be the attitude that we should all have, while the "and there
was" is on God's part.
No one knows it all and
we all have room for further growth in our understanding. The enemy
of our soul wants to keep us from growing and he wants us to become
stagnated. He will use every method possible to keep us from
advancing in the things of the Lord.
We discussed several
hindrances to the advancement of further enlightenment. They
include; (1) a spirit of pride thinking that we know it all, (2)
fear of the unknown, (3) the failures of others, (4) not seeking,
(5) a spirit of compliancy, and (6) having a sectarian spirit.
Thank God, we can overcome all of these with the help of the
Lord.
Truth is liberating and
the enemy will always fight truth because his goal is to keep us in
spiritual bondage. But thank God, we have overcome the enemy and we
welcome anything that the Lord has in store for us.
As the song says:
Brighter
days are sweetly dawning, Oh the glory looms in sight.
For the cloudy day is waning and the evening shall be light.
Oh what
golden glory streaming, Purer light is coming fast.
Now in Christ we found the freedom, which eternally shall last.
