Sunday Morning, July 6, 2008,
Can
two walk together if they aren’t going in the same direction? The
Bible says a house divided against itself will fall. This goes for
the church as well.
This morning, Bro Dillow brought a lesson taken from Philippians
1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of
Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may
hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one
mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.
Reading from I Corinthians 1 & 2, we find that the Corinthian
church had much division – some were “on Paul’s side”, some on
Apollos’, etc.... Paul clearly tells them that their focus should
be on Christ. How often today we see division among God’s people
over ideas or favorite personalities. If we are all working for
Christ and His goals, and keep our mind on that, we will accomplish
much, and these ideas will not get in the way. Too often, our
beliefs (in some cases our preferences) hinder the real work from
going on – loving God and loving our neighbor. Unity is the ideal,
but most often it is not realized. How much better off we would be
if it was.
Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell
together in unity. Psalms 133:1. |
