Give a little whistle,
and ALWAYS let your conscious be your guide... NOT!
This morning, Bro
Dillow led a discussion about our conscience. He noted that at
birth, our conscience is given to us by God and is something that is
pure and points us in the right direction. But as we develop, there
are many external influences (parents, friends, relatives, teachers,
entertainment devices, places, religious beliefs, doctrines and
teachings, etc...) that shape our conscience. Some of those
influences are positive and some are negative. Over time, our
conscience is formed in a positive way or it can be deformed by
negative external influences.
As a Christian, God
can work through the core part of our conscious, i.e., that part
that He created. However, He has given us the Holy Spirit to lead
and to guide us. Where the conscious was improperly shaped by
external influences, we cannot let it be our guide. We must allow
God to purge our conscious from all negative effects and allow Him
to mold and reshape it back to the original state in which He formed
it. This is a process and in cases where it has been negatively
affected by external influences, it may take many years to return to
its original state.
While Jimmy cricket
meant well when he told the puppet Pinocchio to "give a little
whistle, and always let your conscious be your guide", this is not
sound advice for us today. We must allow the Holy Spirit to lead us
for He will always lead us in the right way. |
